Holding a US, UK, Canada, Australia, or Schengen Visa? Nepalese Travelers Still Need a UAE Visa

Global

Many Nepalese travelers assume that holding a valid US, UK, Canada, Australia, or Schengen visa automatically grants visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to the United Arab Emirates.

Unfortunately, this is not the case.

Unlike certain nationalities that may receive visa-on-arrival privileges based on visas or residence permits from developed countries, Nepalese passport holders are still required to obtain a UAE visa before traveling, regardless of whether they hold a valid US, UK, Canada, Australia, or Schengen visa.

A Common Travel Misconception

Social media posts and travel forums frequently highlight how Indian passport holders can receive visa-on-arrival benefits in the UAE when holding valid visas or residence permits from countries such as the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and Schengen states.

However, these privileges are nationality-specific.

For Nepalese passport holders, a valid US, UK, Canada, Australia, or Schengen visa does not replace the requirement for a pre-approved UAE visa. Travelers must still complete the UAE visa application process before departure.

New Requirement: MOFA-Attested Police Clearance Certificate (PCC)

In 2026, UAE authorities introduced stricter documentation requirements for certain nationalities, including Nepal.

As part of the updated process, Nepalese applicants may be required to submit a Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) issued in Nepal and properly attested before visa processing. The requirement applies across various entry permit categories and has become a key component of background verification.

What Does "MOFA Attested PCC" Mean?

The Police Clearance Certificate must generally go through the following verification process:

  1. Obtain a Police Clearance Certificate from Nepal Police.
  2. Complete the required authentication procedures in Nepal.
  3. Obtain attestation from the UAE Embassy.
  4. Obtain attestation from the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) where applicable under the latest immigration requirements.

Failure to provide the required attested PCC may result in delays, additional document requests, or visa rejection.

Documents Commonly Required for Nepalese UAE Visa Applicants

While requirements may vary depending on the visa category, applicants are commonly asked to provide:

  • Passport valid for at least six months
  • Recent passport-size photograph
  • Confirmed flight reservation
  • Hotel booking or accommodation details
  • Proof of sufficient funds
  • UAE visa application form
  • Police Clearance Certificate (where applicable)
  • Required attestations and supporting documents requested by immigration authorities

Why Travelers Should Verify Before Booking

Visa rules change frequently, and information circulating online is often designed for travelers from other countries.

A valid US, UK, Canada, Australia, or Schengen visa can certainly strengthen a travel profile, but it does not eliminate UAE visa requirements for Nepalese passport holders. Travelers should always verify current regulations before booking flights or making non-refundable travel arrangements.
